My Glazes and Process

My glazes interact with one another in a way that often yields an entirely different color when one glaze is applied over another.  Another  factor that adds to the variety is the final glaze firing.  These glazes respond to a "reduction atmosphere" which is created in our gas kiln for the last three and a half hours of firing, just when the glazes are molten and as they finally reach maturity.  This reduction process is what creates a rich "aliveness" in my pottery.  There are always variations in each glaze color.

What follows is a list of the glaze names and examples of each glaze.  The quality of the examples varies but it will give you a fairly good idea of what each glaze looks like.  Just click on a small image to see more detail.
